SKAGEN BIRD FESTIVAL 2017 May12th-14th

This year's program will include many exciting events. For children and adults. For seasoned watchers and for those who have never been birdwatching before.

PROGRAM

 

 

May 12th at. 9pm-12pm

Guided tour down the Grenen path

Meeting point: At the parking lot at Grenen where Sandormen have its pick-up spot.

 

Kurt Rasmussen is the guide on this about 3 km long trip that goes in through Ellekrattet and then down the Grenen path that leads us down the sanctuary and over to the Grey Lighthouse. The tour ends back at the venue.

 

There will be good opportunities to see the local birds in the area, listen to bird voices while being surprised by the random migration of birds passing over the Grenen.

Sensible footwear is recommended. Have coffee and a bite to eat with a little break. The tour is suitable for disabled and children accompanied by adults.

 

 

May 12th at 10pm

Opening of the Festival at the Grey Lighthouse

 

The opening this year coincides with the inauguration of the new center of migratory birds in the Grey Lighthouse. Therefore, there is not a separate opening of the festival with the opening speech as usual. The information in the big tent by the lighthouse is open from pm. 10pm to 4am.

 

In the big tent you can meet:

- Skagen Bird Stations Friends who man the information.

- Danish Ornithological Society's local branch (DOF Northern Jutland).

- Nature shop of the Danish Ornithological Society

- Swarowski optik show room.

- Olympus show room.

Open Air on Flagbakken

 

 

Klaus Malling Olsen and Lars Grøn is guiding on Flagbakken where among others the many birds of prey passes close by.

There is good opportunity to get knowledgeable and educational guide to the winged passing.

 

 

May 13th at. 7pm - 10pm

Morning Observation on Nordstrand

 

Klaus Malling Olsen and Lars Grøn is guiding on Nordstrand at the end of Batterivej and talk about the birds that pass over the sea, the beach and reserve behind the dunes.

 

 

May 13th at. 7-11

Guided tour in Skagen

Meeting point: Nordstrand at the end of Batterivej north of Radar Station, Skagen.

 

Knud Pedersen, local ornithologist in Skagen, will be the guide on this 6km quiet walk in the area between Nordstrand and Grenen.

The tour starts at. 7 at Nordstrand and goes through undulating dune terrain, past the lake with a cormorant colony.

There are good opportunities to see and / or hear local breeding birds as Red-necked Grebe, Great Bittern, Crane and Water rail and roosting birds in the reserve and a starting raptores migrating over Grenen as the trip progresses.

Rugged and waterproof footwear recommended. Please bring refreshments for the breaks during the approximately 4 hour trip.

Guided tour in Råbjerg Mile

Meeting point on the parking lot at Kandestedvej south af Skagen.

 

Kurt Rasmussen is the guide on this trip that goes into the Råbjerg Mile to the lakes and back. There will be good opportunities to see the local birds such as Curlew, Crane and Raven, as well as random migratory birds like Yellow Wagtail, shorebirds and raptors.

Sensible footwear is recommended for a walk in the sand. Have coffee and a bite to eat at a break.

 

May 14th at. 10pm - 2am
