SKAGEN BIRD FESTIVAL 2019 May9th-12th
This year's program will include many exciting events. For children and adults. For seasoned watchers and for those who have never been birdwatching before.

Thursday May 9th at 10pm.
Festival start
The festival will be opened by the leader of The Grey Lighthouse, Lene Kappelborg.
The information center at the Light House is open until 3am.
Thursday May 9th at 10pm.
Find the rarest bird at the festival.
In the period Thursday at. 10pm to Saturday at 6am runs the competition - "Find the rarest bird at the festival."
Observations of the birds must be verified by at least one other person other than the observer, or by photo documentation, and it must be announced to the organizers latest on Saturday at 6am.
The winner will be announced Saturday 11th of May. at 8am at the grey lighthouse in connection with the grill arrangement.
The Naturstore sponsors a 1000kr gift card to the winner of the competition.
The panel of judges are Simon C. Christiansen and Lars H. Mortensen.

Birdwatching tour down the Grenen Path
Meeting point: At the parking lot at the Grey Lighthouse.
Kurt Rasmussen is the guide on this about 3 km long trip that goes in through Ellekrattet and then down the Grenen path that leads us down the sanctuary and back to the Grey Lighthouse. The tour ends back at the venue.
There will be good opportunities to see and hear the local birds in the area, listen to bird voices while being surprised by the random migration of birds passing over the Grenen.
Sensible footwear is recommended. Have coffee and a bite to eat with a little break. The tour is suitable for disabled and children accompanied by adults.

The Naturbutikken is open at the Light House.
In the shop you have the oppertunity to try out binoculares and telescopes, look at books and other mercandices.

Open Air on Flagbakken
We are guiding on Flagbakken where among others the many birds of prey passes close by.
There is good opportunity to get knowledgeable and educational guide to the winged passing.
The migration of birds above Skagen is depending on the wind. If the wind on the day suposses an other sigth it will be anounced in the information and on Flagbakken where to go.

Meeting point at The Lighthouse
The bird station is capturing and ringing birds in the nets not far from the light house. The ringer will show the birds that are being ringed. The presentation costs 50kr/person. Children for free.
Friday May 10th at. 7pm-11pm
Guided tour in Skagen
Meeting point: Nordstrand at the end of Batterivej north of Radar Station, Skagen.
A local ornithologist in Skagen, will be the guide on this 6km quiet walk in the area between Nordstrand and Grenen.
The tour starts at. 7 at Nordstrand and goes through undulating dune terrain, past the lake with a cormorant colony.
There are good opportunities to see and / or hear local breeding birds as Red-necked Grebe, Great Bittern, Crane and Water rail and roosting birds in the reserve and a starting raptores migrating over Grenen as the trip progresses.
Rugged and waterproof footwear recommended. Please bring refreshments for the breaks during the approximately 4 hour trip.

We are guiding on Nordstrand at the end of Batterivej and talk about the birds that pass over the sea, the beach and reserve behind the dunes.

Bring the meat you want to prepare on the grill. We will supply the salat and bread. You can by beer and soft drinks.
The winner of the find the rarest bird will be annouced during the evning.

Meeting point on the parking lot at Kandestedvej south af Skagen.
Kurt Rasmussen is the guide on this trip that goes into the Råbjerg Mile to the lakes and back. There will be good opportunities to see the local birds such as Curlew, Crane and Raven, as well as random migratory birds like Yellow Wagtail, shorebirds and raptors.
Sensible footwear is recommended for a walk in the sand. Have coffee and a bite to eat at a break.
